Eng. Tutor | Stirling College – Chengdu University (China) Apr-8-2025

We are recruiting experienced and motivated English teachers to join our International Foundation Programme (IFP) at Stirling College, Chengdu University. We have openings in two areas: English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and General English (GE). Our students are 18-year-old foundation-year learners preparing for degree study in Digital Media, Sports Studies, or Data Science

All full-time staff are offered a sponsored Postgraduate Certificate in International Education (PGCIE) starting February 2026, with the opportunity to progress to an MA Education following successful performance. 

1. EAP Tutor 

Focus: Academic writing, reading, research skills, and presentation. 
Modules: Three EAP modules delivered across the foundation year. 

Ideal candidates will: 

  • Have experience teaching academic writing and research skills 
  • Be confident guiding students to become more organised and independent learners 
  • Have a background in academic writing instruction and/or IELTS (reading/writing) 

2. General English Tutor 

Focus: Speaking, listening, grammar, vocabulary, and building general fluency. 

Ideal candidates will: 

  • Be enthusiastic about designing interactive, engaging lessons 
  • Enjoy helping students build confidence in everyday English and classroom communication 

Shared Responsibilities 

  • Teach up to 20 periods (45 minutes each) per week and be available in the staff office for at least six class periods per week for student consultation.
  • Prepare and deliver engaging, student-centred lessons 
  • Conduct one-to-one tutorials and provide feedback 
  • Participate in team meetings, lesson planning, marking, and exam invigilation 

Job Requirements (for all positions) 

  • Passport from an English-speaking country or naturalized citizenship with native-level English 
  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum 2 years of teaching experience 
  • CELTA or TESOL certification 
  • A Master’s in TESOL or Applied Linguistics is desirable, but not required – successful PGCIE completion offers a path to an MA 

Salary & Benefits

  • 16,630 RMB/month starting salary 
  • 9,000 RMB annual flight allowance*

About the City:

The university is situated in a large and pleasant campus adjacent to a sizeable park on the outskirts of the city about 20 minutes from the city centre by metro.
